Maybe you aren't ready to read the story yet. This story is settled in the African savanna, so everything is surrounded by nature.  Now, try to join this nature words making so many combinations of words as possible. (E.g. money garden). Organise yourselves in pairs and let your imagination run.

WHAT IS THE STORY GOING TO BE ABOUT?
WHAT COMES OUT TO YOUR MIND WHEN YOU SEE THESE WORDS?

In the following video Kalulu's friends are really worried about his fate. Watch this video and discover a new hypothesis about on what Kalulu spend the money.
The story says "he went off and spent it all on clothes, dried fish, beads and other things". Which are the "other things" the rabbit bought with the money? Log in http://goanimate.com/ and create a animation video similar to the one you have just seen.

These are some pre-treatment activities which may be useful to introduce this short story to students, in order to engage them before they start to read the story. On the one hand the glog provides some interactive input, something which students usually enjoy. The teacher should use it as a kind of framework of reference while he/she is introducing some elements of the plot and the characters.  On the other hand the tag cloud created by wordle is going to be used to work linguistic aspects. In this especific case, students have to match words which collocate each other. Finally the link of the story is presented; students are now ready to read and explore the story in more depth. As a funny way to make them practise writing skills students are asked to create an animation. Since they've got to type it in the computer, students should invent the dialogue first. Moreover, sometimes it is very useful for them to show them an example of what you want them to do (just like the goanimate example I've provided).
